"Arthritis" refers to any disease process or
condition that affects joints of the body. The most prevalent type of
arthritis is "osteoarthritis." Also known as "degenerative
arthritis," this form results from the wear-and-tear of weightbearing
joints, like our hips & knees, or joints that see constant or repetitive
stress, such as the spine or hands.
There are other less common types of arthritis such as
rheumatoid arthritis. In this uncommon disease, joints are slowly destroyed
by longterm inflammation that mainly affects the synovium (lining) of
the joints. |
